<p>If one wishes to take control of one&#8217;s weight over a long term and lose excess weight in an effort to improve one&#8217;s health, starvation type diets can backfire and lead to rebound weight gain and/or other health problems. For someone who is obese and wishing to lose weight for the long term, the best diet to lose weight is making an adjustment in the types of foods on consumes on a regular basis.</p>
<p>Balance is the most important part of a healthy diet. You may feel tempted to try a fad diet like Atkins, which eliminates all forms of carbs; however, you won&#8217;t have the benefit of full nutrition in your body. In truth, people need carbohydrates to give their body the energy it needs and to maintain a normal metabolism.</p>
<p>The best diet to lose weight is one that includes meats and proteins, vegetables and fruits, grains, breads and other starches, and limited fats in the proper proportions. If you are a vegetarian, you should make sure you eat plenty of proteins and amino acids derived from vegetable sources so that you can substitute them for the proteins in meat, poultry and fish.</p>
<p>If you cut down on the amount of red meat and fat you take in, and eat more vegetables and fruits as a result, you&#8217;ll be able to cut down your calories while still eating as much. Fruits and vegetables are needed to ensure good health because they are higher in nutrients but lower in calories.</p>
<p>You won&#8217;t be starving yourself with this type of diet. The truth is far from it. You can even eat more per day than you&#8217;d think, while still taking in fewer calories than you did. Doctors tend to recommend eating 4 to 6 small meals each day instead of three large ones. By eating more while reducing the amount of calories consumed, a person is likely to decrease the hungry feeling that can cause many people to binge eat and/or stop dieting, which will lead to weight gain.</p>
